About me   A family is seeking a compassionate and enthusiastic carer to support an energetic and lovable 8-year-old autistic child. He attends a specialist school and is non-verbal, communicating his needs in his own unique way. He is highly sensory-seeking and enjoys movement, activities and being actively engaged throughout the day. He requires support with day-to-day living and benefits from someone who is patient, understanding and willing to learn about his individual sensory and communication needs. He is a happy and active child who enjoys swimming and being out in the community. He responds well to people who are calm, caring and able to create fun and engaging activities to keep him happy and occupied.  
Hours and rate of pay Approximately 3 hours per week Support mainly required at weekends   £18.00 per hour  
Location The role is home-based in the West Watford area (WD18), with regular community access and outings.

What you would be doing…   The successful carer will support the child both at home and within the community, helping him access enjoyable activities while providing safe, patient and understanding support. Duties may include:
  • Taking him swimming and to sensory-friendly activities
  • Supporting access to the community and local outings
  • Creating engaging activities and routines to keep him active and happy
  • Supporting his sensory needs and emotional wellbeing
  • Providing companionship and encouragement during activities
  • Helping him feel safe and supported in different environments
The role is centred around activity-based support, sensory engagement and building trust through patience and consistency.

He loves Mickey Mouse and enjoys playing with his toys, especially those that are interactive or light up. J is very intelligent and has a strong logical approach to understanding and working things out. J communicates using a limited vocabulary. J has a diagnosis of Noonan Syndrome and is PEG-fed via a pump. Hours and rate of pay hours Hourly rate of pay £15.00. Support hours to be used flexibly during the weekend, mainly a Saturday and the school holidays, with the occasional evening. Location Meldreth, South Cambridgeshire area DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check Right to Work and references will be needed. What you would be doing… Support J around the home and help keep him engaged in activities he enjoys. Provide support and assistance during mealtimes, as well as with personal care needs, including toileting and nappy changes.
