D is speech delayed although his communication is improving he can become frustrated when he cannot express himself.   D likes to be on the go all the time and requires constant supervision, he likes going to the park he is good at gymnastics & climbing and is fascinated by buses and trains.

What you would be doing…   Supporting D with opportunities to develop his independence away from his mum and his home environment.   D will develop his safety skills when in the community with you, he will be able to choose what he wants to do and where he wants to go with you as his 1:1 worker, empowering him to make his own decisions and develop his confidence.   D will also have an opportunity to socialise with other young people and develop his social and communication skills.    
The person I would like…   Experience of supporting others with learning disabilities is important as is knowledge of the behaviours and challenges learning disabilities can bring.   Someone who is warm and friendly who can offer some reliable commitment and is good at time keeping.   Someone who can communicate clear boundaries in an easy to understand way, who is willing to be interactive & encouraging in order to improve and develop skills.   When frustrated, D can display behaviours such as hitting, biting & hair pulling although this behaviour is usually towards his mum or younger sibling you will need to learn some preventative/ distraction techniques.

About the Direct Payment Holder A 23-year-old individual with autism, a learning disability and ADHD is looking for a reliable, patient and understanding Personal Assistant to provide support at home and out in the community. The role is home-based and involves regular trips into the local area for activities such as shopping, bus rides and general outings to promote independence and confidence.
Hours and rate of pay 15 hours per week
Location Herts (EN8)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check Right to Work and references will be needed.
Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required: • Safeguarding Adults • Introduction to first aid • Health and Safety  
What you would be doing…   Supporting the client during trips into the community (shopping, bus journeys, general activities) Ensuring the client’s safety and wellbeing when outside the home Encouraging independence and building confidence Providing calm, patient and consistent support  
Required skills and experience   Experience working with individuals with additional needs (autism, ADHD, learning disabilities) Patient, understanding and able to offer supportive guidance Ability to promote safe and positive experiences in the community A driver with their own car would be beneficial, but not essential Male or female PAs may apply
