About the Person You Will Support:I am a lady in my 60s living independently in my own home in Armthorpe. I have spina bifida and am paralysed from the waist down. I use a powered wheelchair and have good upper body strength, but require support with many day-to-day tasks, personal care and transfers. I also have lymphoedema/lipoedema affecting my legs, recurrent cellulitis infections and a pressure wound which is monitored by District Nurses. My family have supported me for many years and I am now looking to build a team of caring and reliable Personal Assistants to help me remain independent and continue living life happily in my own home. I enjoy a good chat and value kindness, patience and a sense of humour.
Key Responsibilities:Providing personal care and continence support, assisting with dressing and daily living activities, and supporting transfers using slide sheets, leg slings and hoist equipment. You will assist with showering and personal hygiene, prepare meals, snacks and drinks, and support with medication and wellbeing monitoring when required. The role will also involve changing bedding daily, completing laundry tasks, undertaking light household duties, maintaining a clean and safe environment, and providing support with shopping, appointments and social activities. You will offer companionship and social interaction, provide occasional overnight support during periods of ill health, and work as part of a double-handed team when required for transfers.
Requirements:I am looking for someone who is kind, patient, trustworthy and reliable. You should be willing to learn and undertake training, be flexible and able to adapt to changing daily needs, and have good communication skills with a friendly and approachable manner. You should be able to work independently and use your initiative. Previous care experience would be welcomed but is not essential, as full training will be provided. Experience of moving and handling, hoist use, medication support or health monitoring would be beneficial. A driver with access to their own vehicle would be advantageous, although this is not essential. As personal care is involved, I would feel more comfortable with a female Personal Assistant. This post is exempt under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. Please send your CV, two references and a short covering letter explaining your suitability for the role. Thank you. Sponsorship is not available for this role. No agencies please.
