| About the Person You Will Support: | A family in Bishop’s Stortford is looking for a compassionate, reliable and engaging Personal Assistant to support two neurodivergent siblings aged 9 and 12. Both children are highly masking and have autism and ADHD profiles, Pathological Demand Avoidance and anxiety. The role is primarily to provide companionship and support within the family home, allowing other family members to have short periods of respite. The children enjoy gaming and may sometimes prefer quiet companionship. At other times, they may enjoy chatting, playing indoor games, spending time in the garden or sharing their interests. The family also has a friendly Labrador and a hamster, so the successful applicant must be comfortable around pets. |
| Key Responsibilities: | The Personal Assistant will provide companionship and emotional support to one or both children, engaging with them in a calm, patient and child-led way. This may include activities such as video games, board games, age-appropriate play, chatting, spending time in the garden or simply being present when the children prefer quiet, low-demand interaction. The role may also involve preparing simple drinks and snacks. In the future, once the children feel comfortable, the Personal Assistant may support them with community outings. |
| Requirements: | Applicants should have experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, anxiety and Pathological Demand Avoidance. They should understand and be able to use a low-demand, child-led approach, and be patient, calm and able to build trusting relationships. The successful applicant should be energetic and happy to engage in play, while also being comfortable simply being present when the children need space. An interest in, or willingness to learn about, games such as Minecraft and Roblox would be helpful. Applicants should hold Paediatric First Aid/CPR and anaphylaxis training, including the administration of adrenaline, or be willing to undertake this training. They must be reliable, punctual and trustworthy, with excellent references. A full, clean UK driving licence, access to a vehicle and business insurance are preferred, although these are not essential. Community outings may become part of the role in the future.
