America Day

Hello Cornwall. Cordoba and now Colorado. The Adams family holidays in Covid land. A day celebrating all things good about our chosen destination. Can’t travel. The places come to us.

This week we had America day. From California to the New York Island. From the Redwood Forest to the Gulf Stream Waters, we enjoyed the cuisine, wine and through an art competition, key landmarks. And through the wonders of Apple music, we built a playlist on shuffle with Woody Guthrie, Springsteen, Diamond, Grand Funk, Kid Rock, the Beach Boys and a lot more.

My 8 year old innocently asked if there were many disabled people in America. I bit my tongue. It was our holiday and not a disability history lesson so he didn’t get to hear about how Berkeley became the origin of the user-led movement; the ADA legislation and the work Purple is doing to make disability a vibrant transatlantic issue. So I said there were a few. Always another day.

But America day was my nod to those who have opened my eyes even wider with insight, energy and possibilities.

I thought you might like to see the family album to mark the occasion. No twins as they wouldn’t play ball!

Happy Friday.
