About the Person You Will Support:An opportunity has arisen for a warm, reliable and proactive Female Personal Assistant to support a friendly woman in her early 40s who lives with multiple complex long-term health conditions. Her health conditions have a significant and fluctuating impact on her daily life, including chronic severe pain, fatigue, dizziness, reduced mobility and difficulties with eating and drinking. Some days she may require considerably more support than others. The successful applicant will provide practical support, companionship and encouragement to help her manage daily routines, maintain her independence and improve her overall quality of life. She was previously very active, independent and sociable and would value support to participate in meaningful everyday activities when her health allows. She enjoys arts, crafts, creative projects, spending time in the garden and occasional coffee outings. She lives with her husband and a friendly, lively Shih Tzu, so the successful applicant must be comfortable around dogs.
Key Responsibilities:Providing support and prompting with personal care when required, including showering, washing and drying hair, dressing and changing clothes. Providing gentle encouragement and support with maintaining daily routines, nutrition, hydration and general wellbeing. Supporting the individual to get out of bed, leave her bedroom, access the garden and participate in meaningful everyday activities when her health allows. Providing companionship and emotional support while recognising when rest, quiet and personal space are needed. Supporting with household tasks, including laundry, changing bedding, vacuuming, tidying, wiping surfaces, putting shopping away and general household organisation. Helping to maintain a clean, organised and welcoming home environment. Supporting with meal preparation and providing supervision and assistance in the kitchen. Helping with organisation, prioritising tasks and breaking larger or overwhelming tasks into manageable steps. Assisting with shopping, errands, collecting prescriptions and returns. Providing support and supervision during short walks and occasional community outings. Encouraging participation in arts, crafts and other creative hobbies, including helping to set up and tidy away activities. Promoting independence, confidence, wellbeing, dignity, privacy and personal choice.
Requirements:Be warm, kind, patient, trustworthy and reliable. Be proactive and confident using their own initiative to identify helpful tasks without requiring constant direction. Be observant and able to recognise when additional encouragement or support may be beneficial. Understand that the individual's health and support requirements can fluctuate considerably from day to day. Be able to provide companionship and encouragement while also recognising when quiet time, rest and personal space are needed. Have good organisational skills and be able to help prioritise and break down tasks into manageable steps. Have a positive attitude, good common sense and a willingness to learn.  Have a good standard of spoken, written and read English.  Be comfortable working in a warm, informal family home while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries.  Have a good sense of humour.  Be comfortable around and genuinely enjoy the company of dogs.  Be interested in developing a positive and long-term working relationship. Previous experience in care, support work or a similar role would be beneficial but is not essential. Relevant training in care, safeguarding, first aid or disability support would also be advantageous. Due to the location of the property and limited nearby public transport, the successful applicant must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to their own reliable vehicle and have appropriate insurance for work-related use. The Personal Assistant may also be required to drive locally for errands and community activities
