About the Person You Will Support:N is a happy, sensitive and kind 6-year-old boy with autism and developmental delay. He has limited verbal communication and has an energetic and bubbly personality. N enjoys swimming, going to the cinema, visiting the arcade and having treats at dessert cafés. He enjoys getting out and about and would benefit from someone who can build a positive rapport with him and support him to engage in activities
Key Responsibilities:Support N to access activities he enjoys, including Swimming, the Cinema, the Arcade, Dessert cafés and Community activities while promoting his wellbeing, independence and engagement. Provide one-to-one support for N with his daily routine, personal care including pad changes, as N is incontinent. Support N with PEG feeding. Previous experience is desirable, although the family is happy to provide training. Maintain close supervision when supporting N in the community, as he may approach or grab unfamiliar people. Good awareness and quick reactions will therefore be important to ensure his safety.
Requirements:A calm, patient and caring person with experience or a good understanding of supporting children with autism and developmental delay. An energetic and bubbly individual who can build a positive rapport with N and communicate patiently with a child who has limited verbal communication. Experience with PEG feeding is desirable, although training can be provided. Experience supporting children with personal care and continence needs is desirable. Someone who is vigilant, safety-conscious and has good reflexes, particularly when supporting N in the community. A driver with access to their own car is desirable but not essential, as N has a Blue Badge and enjoys accessing activities within the community.
