About the Person You Will Support:I am 27 years old and live with my mum, siblings and our family dogs in the CM19 area. I have quadriplegic cerebral palsy, epilepsy and a severe visual impairment. I have no independent movement and therefore need support with all aspects of daily life. I am non-verbal and use communication aids to express my wishes, make choices and interact with others. I need support and encouragement to use these aids effectively. I have a fun personality, enjoy socialising and love getting out and about, meeting people and taking part in activities in my local community. I am looking for Personal Assistants who will see beyond my disability and support me to live life to the fullest.
Key Responsibilities:Providing all aspects of personal care and support with daily living activities. Supporting me to use my communication aids and encouraging me to express my wishes, choices and preferences. Assisting with moving and handling, in line with training and guidance provided. Supporting me at home and when accessing the local community, social activities and appointments. Providing support with meal preparation, eating and drinking where required. Monitoring my wellbeing and responding appropriately to any health-related needs, including following established procedures relating to epilepsy. Supporting me to maintain a safe, comfortable and positive home environment. Working collaboratively with my family and other professionals involved in my care, while always promoting my independence, dignity and choice. This is a female-only position because the role involves personal care and intimate support. This is considered a genuine occupational requirement under the Equality Act 2010.
Requirements:Experience of working in a care, support or Personal Assistant role is desirable, although full training can be provided for the right candidate. A caring, patient and reliable nature, with a genuine commitment to supporting disabled people to live independently. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build a positive working relationship with both me and my family. A willingness to learn and follow guidance relating to my communication methods, health conditions and support needs. The ability to work flexibly, including weekends, bank holidays and shifts allocated on the rota. An enhanced DBS check, satisfactory references and proof of Right to Work in the UK will be required. A full UK driving licence would be advantageous but is not essential. This role would suit someone who is compassionate, dependable and enthusiastic about making a positive difference to another person's life. Please note: Day and night shift positions are being recruited separately. Applicants may apply for either role and will not be expected to work both day and night shifts. Employment Status This is an employed Personal Assistant position funded through a Personal Health Budget (PHB). The successful applicant will be employed directly for this role; self-employment is not available under the PHB arrangement.
