| About the Person You Will Support: | The Direct Payment holder is a lady in her 60s living independently in her own home in Armthorpe. She has spina bifida and is paralysed from the waist down, using a powered wheelchair. She has upper body strength but requires support with many day-to-day tasks, personal care and transfers. She also has lymphoedema and lipoedema affecting her legs, experiences recurrent cellulitis infections and has a pressure wound that is monitored by District Nurses. After many years of family support, she is now building a team of caring and reliable Personal Assistants to help her remain independent and continue living happily in her own home. She enjoys conversation and values kindness, patience and a sense of humour. |
| Key Responsibilities: | You will provide personal care, assist with dressing and daily living activities, and support transfers using slide sheets, leg slings and hoist equipment. You will assist with showering and personal hygiene, prepare meals, snacks and drinks, and support with medication and wellbeing monitoring when required. You will change bedding daily, undertake laundry tasks, and perform light household duties. You will support the individual with shopping, appointments and social activities, provide companionship and social interaction, offer occasional overnight support during periods of ill health, and work as part of a double-handed team when required for transfers. |
| Requirements: | You must be female, kind, patient, trustworthy and reliable with a willingness to learn and undertake training. You should be flexible and able to adapt to changing daily needs, with communication skills and an approachable personality. You must be able to work independently and use your initiative. Experience in care is welcome but not essential as training will be provided. Experience of moving and handling, hoist use, medication support or health monitoring would be beneficial. A driving licence with access to your own vehicle would be advantageous but is not essential. You will need an Enhanced DBS check, Right to Work documentation and two professional references. As personal care is involved, a female carer is preferred in accordance with Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. |
