Both children are highly masking, have autism/ADHD profiles (ADHD/ASD), Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) and experience anxiety. The role is primarily to provide companionship and support within the family home, allowing other family members to have short periods of respite. The children enjoy spending time gaming and may sometimes prefer quiet companionship, while at other times they may enjoy chatting, playing indoor games, spending time in the garden or sharing their interests. The family also has a friendly Labrador and a hamster, so the successful applicant must be comfortable around pets. Engaging in activities such as video games, board games and other age appropriate play. Respecting when the children prefer quiet, low-demand interaction. Preparing simple drinks and snacks. Potentially supporting the children with community outings in the future, once they feel comfortable. The person I would like… Have experience supporting children with autism, ADHD, anxiety and Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA). Understand and be able to use a low-demand, child-led approach. Be patient, calm and able to build trusting relationships. Be energetic and happy to engage in play, while also being comfortable simply being present when the children need space. Have an interest in, or willingness to learn about, games such as Minecraft and Roblox. Hold Paediatric First Aid/CPR and anaphylaxis training, including the administration of adrenaline (or be willing to undertake this training). Be reliable, punctual and trustworthy, with excellent references. A full, clean UK driving licence, access to a vehicle and business insurance are preferred, although these are not essential.
