About the Person You Will Support:I am a lady in my 60s living independently in my own home in Armthorpe. I have spina bifida and am paralysed from the waist down. I use a powered wheelchair and have good upper body strength, but require support with many day-to-day tasks, personal care and transfers. I also have lymphoedema/lipoedema affecting my legs, recurrent cellulitis infections and a pressure wound which is monitored by District Nurses. My family have supported me for many years and I am now looking to build a team of caring and reliable Personal Assistants to help me remain independent and continue living life happily in my own home. I enjoy a good chat and value kindness, patience and a sense of humour.
Key Responsibilities:The role involves providing personal care and continence support while assisting me with dressing, daily living activities and maintaining my independence at home. You will support transfers using slide sheets, leg slings and hoist equipment, assist with showering and personal hygiene, and help prepare meals, snacks and drinks. You will also support medication management when required, monitor my wellbeing, change bedding daily, complete laundry tasks and assist with light household duties to help maintain a clean and comfortable environment. Other responsibilities include accompanying me to appointments, assisting with shopping and social activities, providing companionship, and offering occasional overnight support during periods of ill health. Some transfers will require working as part of a double-handed team to ensure they are completed safely.
Requirements:I am seeking someone who is kind, patient, trustworthy and reliable. You should be willing to learn, undertake training and be flexible enough to adapt to changing daily needs. A positive attitude, good communication skills and an approachable personality are essential. The ideal candidate will be confident working independently, able to use their initiative and committed to providing high-quality support. Previous care experience would be welcomed but is not essential, as full training can be provided. Experience with moving and handling, hoist use, medication support or health monitoring would be beneficial. A driver with access to their own vehicle would be advantageous, although this is not essential. As personal care is involved, I would feel more comfortable with a female carer. This post is exempt under Schedule 9, Part 1 of the Equality Act 2010. How to Apply Please send your CV, two references and a short covering letter explaining why you would be suitable for this role. Thank you for your interest. Sponsorship is not available for this role. No agencies please.
