| Hours | During term time, the role includes two mornings per week, from 7.00am to 9.30am, ideally on Thursdays and Fridays, supporting M to get ready for school. There are also two evening shifts per week, from 2.00pm to 8.00pm, ideally on Wednesdays and Fridays, although the start time is open to discussion. In addition, there are two 12-hour weekend shifts per month, with the specific days and times open to discussion. During school holidays, there are three 12-hour shifts available each week. This includes covering annual leave for existing team members, and some shifts may be worked alongside another member of M's support team. |

| About the Person You Will Support: | M is an 18-year-old wheelchair user living in Benfleet with his family. He has complex learning, physical and medical needs caused by an extremely rare genetic condition. M is non-verbal and communicates using PECS, gestures and vocal sounds. He is looking for a kind, patient and reliable Personal Assistant to join his established support team and help him enjoy activities, develop independence and remain safe and well supported both at home and in the community. |
| Key Responsibilities: | You will support M in his family home and out in the community, helping him to build confidence, independence and life skills while ensuring his complex care and support needs are met safely and consistently. The role includes providing personal care, supporting toileting routines, assisting with meals, snacks, medication, fluids and tube feeds, and encouraging participation in activities that M enjoys. You will accompany M on outings and community activities, support his communication using his preferred methods, and provide reassurance and guidance throughout the day. Maintaining his health, safety and wellbeing will be a key part of the role, as will working closely with his family and wider support team to ensure consistency in his care and support. |
| Requirements: | The ideal candidate will be calm, patient, positive and reliable, with a good sense of humour and a genuine desire to make a difference. Experience supporting individuals with learning disabilities, autism, complex needs or health conditions would be beneficial, but is not essential, as the right attitude and willingness to learn are equally important. Good communication skills are essential. English is the preferred language for this role, as M benefits from clear, consistent verbal communication. This is particularly important because M can be very tactile-seeking and determined, and he responds best to straightforward instructions, clear boundaries and consistent consequences that he understands. Applicants must hold a full clean driving licence, be non-smokers, and be comfortable working in a home with a Labrador. A DBS check, Right to Work check and satisfactory references will be required.
