About the Person You Will Support:am a happy, cheeky 8-year-old autistic boy living in Cheshunt. I am nonverbal and communicate mainly by taking an adult's hand and leading them to what I want or need. I enjoy tickles, affection, sensory play, being outdoors and taking part in activities in my local community. I am very sensory-seeking and need close supervision as I have limited awareness of danger and do not always recognise risks around me. Although I am continent and will usually take myself to the toilet, I may still require support and supervision to ensure I remain safe. At times, if I become frustrated or am unable to communicate what I want, I can become distressed. This may result in crying, pinching and, occasionally, biting. I need calm, patient adults who can understand my cues, reduce demands when I am overwhelmed and help me regulate my emotions safely.
Key Responsibilities:Trips to local parks, Shopping outings, Swimming activities  Community-based activities  Sensory play and engagement, Preparing a light lunch when required Providing close supervision to keep me safe  Encouraging independence, confidence and social participation
Requirements:Warm, kind and caring  Reliable and punctual  Patient and emotionally calm  Understanding and respectful of individual differences  Observant and responsive to non-verbal communication  Flexible and able to adapt to changing situations  Enthusiastic about supporting children with autism and additional needs Please send your CV, two references and a short covering letter explaining your suitability for the role. Thank you. * Sponsorship is not available for this role * * No agencies please * You will understand that communication is not always verbal and be willing to learn and recognise my unique ways of expressing my needs through behaviour, body language, gestures and facial expressions. Experience and Qualifications Previous experience supporting autistic or non-verbal children is desirable but not essential. The right attitude, patience and willingness to learn are equally important. The following would be an advantage:  Autism awareness training  Positive Behaviour Support training  Communication support experience  First Aid qualification, Safeguarding training
