About the Person You Will Support:ct payment holder S is starting a nursing degree at Anglia Ruskin University in September and will be living independently in student accommodation for the first time. She is a capable, hardworking and determined young woman who manages a great deal on her own, but she is autistic, has a mild learning difficulty, and a communication disorder. S enjoys swimming, which she does weekly, and she is warm and sociable once she feels comfortable. She would also like to go to gym and play badminton. She is genuinely interested in healthcare and caring for people, which is what drew her to nursing. She likes routine and familiar activities, and she is keen to try new things and build her social life at university with a bit of encouragement.
Key Responsibilities:The Direct Payment Holder is a university student who is independent with their personal care and manages well when they have an established routine. Their support needs are primarily around planning, organisation, travel, and building confidence in unfamiliar situations. They benefit from gentle prompting, structure, and support from a trusted person to help them stay on track with coursework, manage daily living tasks, plan meals, maintain healthy routines, and travel safely to and from university and clinical placements. Support will also include encouraging participation in social and community activities, helping them build confidence in new situations, and providing reassurance on more challenging days. The aim of the role is to promote independence by supporting the Direct Payment Holder to develop the skills, confidence and routines needed to live independently, succeed in their studies and achieve their long-term goals.
Requirements:They would like someone who is patient, kind, reliable and encouraging, with a calm and positive approach. The ideal person will be able to provide gentle prompting and support while promoting the Direct Payment Holder's independence and confidence. Good timekeeping, dependability and a willingness to learn are essential. Experience supporting autistic people or individuals with learning disabilities would be beneficial but is not essential. A full driving licence and access to a vehicle would be desirable, although not essential.
