\nAbout me An opportunity has arisen for a kind, reliable and adaptable Female Personal Assistant to support a physically disabled woman who is an electric wheelchair user.
\nThe successful applicant will provide person-centred support, enabling the individual to live her life in the way she chooses and maintain as much independence, choice and control as possible.
\nThe role requires someone who understands the importance of listening, following directions and adapting their support to the individual’s specific needs and preferred ways of doing things.
\nHours and rate of pay A mixture of morning and evening shifts, with additional flexible hours for social activities
\nRate of Pay: \u00a314.50 per hour for support at home and \u00a315.50 per hour for social activities and community support
\nLocation AL1, St Albans
\nDBS\/Checks Confirmation of DBS check required
\nRight to Work documentation and references will be needed
\nTraining Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:
\n\u2022 Safeguarding
\n\u2022 Introduction to first aid
\n\u2022 Health and Safety
\nWhat you would be doing\u2026 Support is required for approximately 2.5 hours during morning shifts and 1 hour during evening shifts, together with flexible hours for social activities and community support.
\nCurrent support requirements include Monday evening, Tuesday morning, Wednesday morning and evening, and Thursday morning. Some flexibility and a mixture of these shifts may be required.
\nThe position is initially to provide cover for sickness and holidays but may have the potential to become permanent.
\nProviding assistance with personal care.
\nSupporting with transfers and the safe use of wheelchairs. Organising medication.
\nPreparing meals and cooking. Cleaning and general household tasks. Laundry and changing bed linen.
\nShopping and running errands. Putting out household rubbish.
\nCarrying out occasional light DIY tasks. Collecting and returning parcels.
\nSupporting with walks, shopping trips and other social activities in the community.<\/p>\n
Providing additional cover during periods of staff sickness and holidays.
\nSupporting the individual to maintain her independence and live her life according to her choices and preferences.

\nBe adaptable and flexible according to the individual’s needs. Be a good listener and able to follow directions.
\nRespect the individual’s home, belongings and routines, including returning items to their correct places.
\nUnderstand the importance of dignity, privacy, choice and independence.
\nBe comfortable providing support in the individual’s preferred way, including following specific guidance regarding moving, handling and transfers.
\nHave previous experience in care work or working with Direct Payments, although this is desirable rather than essential.
\nBe willing to undertake training on the job to learn the individual’s specific support needs.
\nDriving Requirements
\nThe successful applicant must hold a valid driving licence, have access to their own car and have appropriate insurance for work-related travel.
\nThis position is open to female applicants only due to the personal and intimate care requirements of the role. The female-only requirement is a genuine occupational requirement in accordance with the Equality Act 2010, Schedule 9, Part 1.<\/p>\n
