\nWe are seeking a compassionate and experienced Personal Assistant to provide
\ntailored support to a fourth-year student at Durham University, who is on the
\nautistic spectrum (ASD). The ideal candidate will have experience working with
\nneurodivergent young adults, particularly those on the autism spectrum (ASD),
\nand will offer personalized guidance to foster the student\u2019s independence. The
\nstudent is currently residing in St Aidan\u2019s College, Durham University.

\nPart-time: 5 hours per week during term time (total: 29 weeks). Hours
\nmust not exceed 144 over the academic year.
\nTerm dates for 2026\/2027:
\no 28 Sep 2026 – 11 Dec 2026 (10 weeks)
\no 11 Jan 2027 – 19 March 2027 (10 weeks)
\no 26th April – 25 June 2025 (9 weeks)
\nPay: \u00a320 per hour, plus pro-rata holiday pay.

\nKey Responsibilities:

\nPhysical assistance is not required, this person is physically able and very
\nhealthy.
\nMeet with the student 1-on-1 at least twice a week during term time.
\n\uf0b7
\n\uf0b7
\n\uf0b7
\n\uf0b7
\nMonitor well-being and assist with establishing personal care routines
\n(e.g., organizing laundry, encouraging tidiness in accommodation). No
\nphysical assistance required; the focus is on fostering independence.
\nSupport academic development by helping the student manage tasks
\nacross multiple modules, meet deadlines, and improve group work
\nskills.
\nAssist with social and career development, including helping the
\nstudent build friendships and develop social skills. Support student to
\nfind career opportunities as they start the final year at university.
\nLiaise with the student\u2019s college (St Aidan\u2019s) and family to ensure the
\nappropriate level of care and support is consistently maintained.<\/p>\n

\nwith ASD.
\n\uf0b7 Empathy, patience, and strong interpersonal skills with the ability to

\n\uf0b7 Excellent communication skills for effective coordination with the
\nstudent, their college, and their family.
\n\uf0b7 Enhanced DBS Certificate required. Candidates should possess an
\nexisting certificate or be willing to obtain one at their own cost.
