About me<\/strong><\/td>\n <\/p>\n

A caring, energetic, and experienced Female Carer \/ Communication Support Worker is required to support a happy and lively five-year-old child who is profoundly Deaf from birth and uses British Sign Language (BSL) as her main method of communication.<\/p>\n

The child is a bilateral cochlear implant user and communicates using a total communication approach, including both British Sign Language and spoken language at home and within school. She attends a specialist school for Deaf children in St Albans and is a bright, active, and energetic child who enjoys engaging with the world around her. She is currently awaiting an ADHD assessment.<\/p>\n

This rewarding role involves supporting the child to access play activities, communication, and social interaction in a safe and engaging environment, both within the home and occasionally within the community once a positive relationship has been established.<\/p>\n

Supporting a profoundly Deaf child to access indoor and outdoor play activities<\/p>\n

Supporting communication through fluent British Sign Language<\/p>\n

Translating spoken English into age-appropriate BSL<\/p>\n

Translating BSL into spoken English to support communication of wants, needs, thoughts, and feelings where appropriate<\/p>\n

Supporting social interaction with both adults and peers<\/p>\n

Supporting homework activities where necessary<\/p>\n

Ensuring the child\u2019s safety during outings and activities<\/p>\n

Full UK driving licence with access to own vehicle<\/p>\n

Signature Level 3 qualification (or above) in British Sign Language<\/p>\n

Signature Level 2 Certificate in Communication Support Work for Deaf Learners (or equivalent experience)<\/p>\n

Minimum Level 2 English qualification<\/p>\n

Experience working with children<\/p>\n

Confident and fluent BSL communication skills<\/p>\n

  • Experience working with children with ADHD<\/li>\n
  • Deaf or CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) applicants welcomed due to native BSL experience and cultural understanding<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    The ideal candidate will be kind, patient, professional, expressive, and committed, with excellent use of body language, facial expressions, and eye contact to support effective communication with a young Deaf child. They should feel comfortable within Deaf environments and demonstrate awareness and understanding of Deaf culture and communication styles.<\/p>\n

    The successful candidate will be warm, engaging, energetic, and confident in supporting a child to develop communication, confidence, independence, and social interaction in a positive and supportive way.<\/p>\n
