O is an 11 year old boy, who exhibits Autistic traits (no diagnosis) he is dyslexic and has sensory sensitivities such as smell.

He loves playing with Lego and has an interest in cooking and art, he has a brilliant imagination and enjoys being outside making dens and things from wood, he also likes trips to the beach in all weathers, he has a keen interest in world war 2 and enjoys going to Duxford air museum.

Hours to be used mostly in the summer school holidays – 6 weeks up to 15 hours per week paid at £12.50 per hour.

Enhanced DBS clearance is essential

Offering opportunities to spend time with another trusted adult engaging in fun activities in the home and community.

Developing safety skills while in the community, allowing opportunities for him to make his own decision where he wants to go and what he wants to do in the support sessions, empowering his confidence.

You will need to be willing to be interactive and get involved with activities in order to encourage and develop skills.

Providing opportunities to socialise with other young people and develop his social and communication skills.

If you have experience of supporting others with learning disabilities that would be great but is not essential, the following qualities are essential…

Excellent spoken English, to aid communication

Ability to communicate clear boundaries is an easy to understand way.

Excellent time keeping – O responds well to routine

You will need a decent level of fitness as O is very active.

Access to your own vehicle with appropriate business use insurance – mileage will be paid.

O can, at times, display some challenging behaviour, usually verbal and triggered by frustration, you will need to learn triggers and techniques for managing this.

O has the benefit of a smoke free environment and due to his sensory sensitivities if you smoke/vape you will be asked to refrain prior to your support sessions.
