A compassionate and reliable female Personal Assistant is required to support a young woman with complex health and care needs. She is a wheelchair user with learning difficulties, and multiple medical conditions including Niemann-Pick type C, Ataxia, cataplexy, developmental delay, dysphagia, and obstructive sleep apnoea. Despite her challenges, she is fun-loving, sociable, and enjoys a good singalong, crafts, and a trip to the shops. The PA will provide hands-on support at home and during outings,and assist with engagement in activities at a local day centre (location still being finalised, possibly in Welwyn).

Hours and rate of pay | 8:30am – 3:30pm | 2 days per week (likely Tues & Fri) |
Location | In-person, starting at home in Stevenage, then out to day centre |
DBS/Checks | Confirmation of DBS check
Right to Work and references will be needed. |
Training | Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:
• Safeguarding Adults • Introduction to first aid • Health and Safety / Moving and handling

What you would be doing… |
Personal care, including toileting (pad support and use of a commode) Mobility support, including manual wheelchair use and transfers into/out of a wheelchair-accessible van Support with eating and drinking safely (monitoring for choking and providing verbal prompts such as “small bites” and “swallow before more”) Provide companionship and engagement in meaningful activities such as arts and crafts, music, and outings Accompany to a day centre, offering reassurance and fun along the way Be mindful of sensory or emotional needs, especially during certain times of the month when moods may shift Follow a Buccal Midazolam care plan (training can be provided) May need to use a hoist (available in the bedroom if required)

Required skills and experience |
Female (for personal care reasons) Patient, caring, and able to provide gentle guidance Enjoys arts, crafts, music, TV/films, and reading stories Attuned to emotional cues and able to offer space when needed Confident supporting people with learning disabilities, communication difficulties, and medical needs Vigilant and calm when assisting with meals or unexpected health events Has a good sense of humour and enjoys musicals and singing Comfortable adapting routines based on energy levels or behaviour Must be able to drive This advert complies with the Sex Discrimination Act (1975) Section 7 (2b).
