About the Direct Payment Holder Seeking a PA for an 18-year-old young man with cerebral palsy who has both a physical disability and a learning disability. He primarily uses a wheelchair but also utilizes a walker and standing frame with assistance. This young man is social, has a great sense of humour, and is highly interested in current events. He communicates effectively both verbally and through technology (computer/iPad), enjoys a variety of games like draughts, backgammon, board games, and card games, and has a particular interest in rugby, along with some interest in football.
Hours and rate of pay During Term Time: Approximately 8am-9am, four days a week (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday).

During College Holidays: Longer, flexible hours on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:

• Safeguarding Adults

• Introduction to first aid

• Health and Safety

 

What you would be doing… Personal Care: Assisting with toileting, feeding, and personal hygiene as needed.

Social Engagement & Activities: Playing games, helping with television or social activities, and engaging in conversations on various topics, including current events.

Outings (During Holidays): Providing outings to places like the cinema, shopping, or meeting friends, ensuring a fun and stimulating experience.

Physical Assistance: Supporting his physical care routines, such as helping him use his standing frame, applying hand splints, and assisting with physiotherapy exercises as guided.

Required skills and experience Relevant Experience: Experience working with individuals who have physical and/or learning disabilities.

 

Strong Communication Skills: Ability to listen, be patient, and engage in meaningful conversations. Candidates should be comfortable understanding and responding to his unique speech patterns.

 

Attentiveness and Care: Observant of signs of discomfort or emotional upset, with basic first aid skills preferred.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Driver’s Licence: Ideally, capable of driving a wheelchair-accessible vehicle (provided with open insurance) for outings and holiday activities.

 

Personal Qualities: Friendly, chatty, and a good sense of humour to match his love for conversation and social interaction.
