About the Direct Payment Holder A young boy living in Hemel Hempstead is looking for a patient, lively, and responsible Personal Assistant to provide support both at home and in the community. He has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), global developmental delay, and severe speech delay. He is nonverbal but uses single words and written communication to express his needs and understands symbols. An iPad communication system is currently being introduced to replace his symbol book.
Hours and rate of pay £18.92 per hour

Term time: 2 hours per week (Wednesdays 4:15–6:15pm)

School holidays: 4 hours per week (day flexible – to be agreed)

 

Location Hemel Hempstead (HP2)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:

• Safeguarding Adults

• Introduction to first aid

• Health and Safety / Moving and handling

 

What you would be doing…  

The PA will support this young person both at home and in the community. Typical activities include trips to:

The skate park at Gadebridge Park

Local playgrounds and soft play centres

Hemel Hempstead town centre

He uses a stroller when out and about, particularly for returning home or walking longer distances.

Personal care support will also be required, including:

Encouraging and supporting toileting (no nappy use)

Assistance with hygiene (help cleaning after a bowel movement and washing hands)

Supporting with changing clothes if wet
He follows a well-established toilet routine and carries a portable potty for community use.

 

Required skills and experience Lively, patient, and caring, with a positive and energetic approach

Responsible and safety-conscious, able to anticipate and prevent potential risks in the community

Confident and composed in public places, understanding that the child can sometimes be noisy and attract attention

Creative and engaging, able to communicate through gestures, play, sounds, or singing

Experienced in supporting children with ASD and familiar with alternative communication methods (PECS, symbol books, iPad AAC systems)

Able to set and maintain clear boundaries while remaining warm and supportive

Open to exploring new activities and community opportunities that the child might enjoy
