Job Title: Mentor/Support Worker
Location: Stanford le Hope (SS17)
Rate of Pay: £10 per hour
Hours: 5 hours per week – this may increase over time
I am looking for a mentor to support my 9 year- old son. Harry is an intelligent, imaginative boy who loves gaming and has his own Youtube channel. He would love to have support from someone likeminded, who shares his passion for animation and editing as these are topics which really engage and fulfil him.
While Harry is intelligent, he also experiences high levels of anxiety so the ideal person would need to understand how to support him and build his confidence and self-esteem. Initially the support would be within the home with the aim of some outings however this would be with support from family and only once a relationship has been established.
Ideally, you will be responsible, cheerful, honest and very reliable with a young and energetic outlook to life. It is more important that you have a rapport with my son than the level of experience you have however Harry has complex autism and the ideal candidate will be willing to learn and develop their skills in this role.
We are looking for someone with a calm responsible approach who understand or is willing to learn about the challenges that can occur when supporting someone with autism however it is just as important that you have shared interests and passions.
Ideally, you will have some experience of autism however a willing ness to learn would be equally beneficial.
Due to my son’s diagnosis of Extreme Demand Avoidance, a flexible non-directive approach is also required.
A DBS check will also be required if successful.
