About me  

A friendly, sociable and active 23-year-old young man based in St Albans is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Personal Assistant to support him within the home and community.

He has Autism, ADHD and a learning disability and thrives when engaged in meaningful and enjoyable activities. He is naturally curious and enjoys learning and exploring new things. He has a warm personality, enjoys socialising and responds well to patient, calm and positive support.

His interests include:

  • Athletics and sports
  • Basketball, badminton, table tennis and swimming
  • Going to the gym
  • Cycling and outdoor activities
  • Computer games, puzzles and Lego
  • Reading and writing
  • Board games and card games
  • Attending social groups

He enjoys structure, routine and being actively engaged throughout the day. He can become anxious or overwhelmed if plans are unclear or if communication is rushed, therefore he benefits from calm reassurance, clear instructions and supportive guidance.

Hours and rate of pay  

13 hours per week

Required days: Wednesday ,Thursday , Sunday

Support is mainly required during afternoons, evenings, weekends, bank holidays and school/college holiday periods.

Pay

£19.45 per hour

DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:

• Safeguarding Adults

• Introduction to first aid

• Health and Safety

 

What you would be doing…  

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be male
  • Preferably self employed
  • Hold a full UK driving licence
  • Have access to a well-maintained vehicle for daily use
  • Be DBS checked
  • Have appropriate insurance in place
  • Be physically fit, active and enthusiastic
  • Be available during weekends, bank holidays and school/college holiday periods
  • Have experience supporting autistic neurodivergent individuals or people with additional needs, or be willing to learn

The successful PA should also understand:

  • how to support someone when they become overwhelmed or anxious
  • how to safely manage stimming behaviours
  • the importance of consistency, patience and clear communication

 

The person I would like… This role would suit someone who is calm, friendly, patient and genuinely enjoys supporting young people to live active and fulfilling lives. The ideal candidate will enjoy participating in activities rather than simply supervising and will be able to build a trusting and positive relationship through encouragement, routine and shared interests.
