About the Direct Payment Holder A rewarding opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and energetic Personal Assistant to support a 7-year-old child living in Great Ashby, Stevenage.

He has a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), a learning disability, and hypermobility. He is also suspected to have ADHD, as well as ARFID and PICA. He attends a specialist school and is an extremely active, energetic child who enjoys running, climbing, bouncing, and engaging in physical play.

He has limited awareness of danger and can be impulsive, therefore requires constant supervision and a highly vigilant individual, particularly when outdoors. He is pre-verbal but can communicate his needs and enjoys singing and talking to himself. At times, when distressed, he may display behaviours such as pinching or biting, which can often be managed with consistent strategies such as structured transitions and clear communication.

 

Hours and rate of pay Term time: 4 hours per week

School holidays: 8 hours per week

Days/times: Flexible, primarily after school and during school holidays

Initially home-based, with the potential to gradually support with outings in the community (e.g. park, trips, activities)

£18.92 per hour

 

Location Great Ashby (Stevenage)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:

• Safeguarding Adults

• Introduction to first aid

• Health and Safety / Moving and handling

 

What you would be doing… Providing 1:1 supervision at all times to ensure safety

Supporting with play and engagement, including physical activities such as trampoline play and interactive games

Supporting with nappy changes

Encouraging hydration and offering snacks

Supporting with behaviour management using agreed strategies

Potentially accompanying the child and family on outings or short trips as confidence builds

 

 

 

Required skills and experience  

The ideal candidate will be:

 

Physically fit and able to keep up with an active child

Highly vigilant with a strong awareness of safety (including managing flight risk)

Patient, calm, and compassionate

Confident supporting children with autism, learning disabilities, and behaviours that challenge

Willing to learn and understand ARFID and PICA

Reliable, consistent, and able to build trust with both the child and family
