About the Direct Payment Holder  

A family in Sawbridgeworth is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and experienced Personal Assistant to support their 10-year-old son, who has Autism Spectrum Disorder, a recent ADHD diagnosis, and is non-verbal. He is a happy, affectionate child who enjoys smiling, physical affection, and thrill-seeking activities. At times he can experience anxiety, which may present as crying, lashing out, or hitting himself or others. He needs a calm, patient, and understanding adult who can help him feel safe and supported.

He relies fully on a responsible adult for all aspects of daily living, both at home and out in the community. He thrives when his routine is understood and followed, and requires a PA who can keep him comfortable, clean, engaged, and well-supported throughout their time together.

 

Hours and rate of pay 3 hours per week, £15 per hour
Location Sawbridge (CM21)
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:

• Safeguarding Adults

• Introduction to first aid

• Health and Safety / Moving and handling

 

What you would be doing…  

Personal care, including changing pads and encouraging toilet use

Preparing simple meals such as chips and buttered toast

Light tidying related to activities (e.g., putting games or toys away)

Maintaining his routine and supporting his comfort, wellbeing, and emotional regulation

Building familiarity and trust with him and the wider family, including his younger sister

Once a positive relationship is established, the PA will also support him in the community with activities he enjoys, such as soft play, jumping/trampolining centres, rock climbing, Go Ape, the park, and other stimulating environments.

 

Required skills and experience  

Have experience working with children with special needs, either in care or education

Be patient, kind, calm, and appropriately affectionate

Be highly trustworthy and respectful toward the whole family

Have strong communication skills, particularly in understanding the needs of a non-verbal child

Be committed to supporting him in a way that reduces frustration and helps him thrive
