About the Direct Payment Holder A Personal Assistant (Support Worker) is required to support a friendly, articulate, and sociable 16-year-old young man with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, a learning disability, hypermobility, and low muscle tone. He communicates verbally and confidently, though he can struggle to understand instructions and verbal information. While physically active, he finds walking long distances challenging and is at risk of wandering, so supervision is essential at all times, both at home and in the community.
Hours and rate of pay £14.50 per hour,  6 hours per week (term time) with additional hours during school holidays
Location Stevenage, Hertfordshire
DBS/Checks Confirmation of DBS check

Right to Work and references will be needed.

Training Training will be offered to enable to complete the mandatory training required:

• Safeguarding Adults

• Introduction to first aid

• Health and Safety / Moving and handling

 

What you would be doing…  

Supporting access to community-based activities (e.g. cinema, museum visits, amusement arcades, restaurants, clubs)

Encouraging and supporting independence and life skills (e.g. cooking, using public transport, handling money)

Providing companionship and emotional reassurance

Participating in home-based activities such as crafts, games, and cooking

Ensuring safety when out and about (road awareness, supervision in public spaces)

Promoting confidence and communication in social situations

 

Required skills and experience Friendly, caring, and easy-going with a reliable and consistent approach

Experience working with young people with autism and learning disabilities

Able to build a trusting, mentor-like relationship that fosters independence

Open-minded, respectful of personal values and communication styles

Flexible and creative in planning enjoyable activities

Calm and patient when supporting emotional regulation

A dog lover – as walks and interaction with the family pet are part of daily life

A driver is preferred to help access activities outside of Stevenage
