Edwin Godfrey holds an MA degree in law from Queens’ College, Cambridge, and was admitted as a solicitor (with honours) in 1971. The bulk of his career was spent as a partner in the international City of London law firm Simmons & Simmons, where he practised in the corporate, commercial and projects fields for a range of major UK and international clients, and held various appointments, including International Managing Partner, Head of Commercial and Head of Major Projects.
He subsequently acted as a consultant to the leading Scottish law firm Dundas & Wilson, which later merged into the international firm of CMS Cameron McKenna LLP, where he continues to be a consultant on a part-time basis.
Edwin is also a trustee of the international disability charity CBM UK and the UK member of the supervisory assembly of CBM International in Germany, a trustee of Herts Vision Loss, a governor of Presdales School Academy Trust and chair of the finance committee of All Saints Church, Hertford.
His past appointments in the disability field include serving as chairman of ecdp ventures limited, as a trustee of the disability arts centre, Zinc (formerly Theatre Resource) and as a trustee of the disability arts organisation, Shape. He is a Freeman of the City of London and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
